I'm Karina, a Halifax based farmer, researcher, and film photographer.
During my time in the Masters of Environmental Studies program at York University, I researched the role of farm incubators in addressing barriers to new farmers, while considering national agricultural policies and labour trends. My academic journey has taken me to several farms across Canada where I got to experience the challenges that new farmers face first hand, but also their resiliency and collective action towards a sustainable food system. These days when I’m not exploring radical movements in food production, I’m helping out with a harvest or am out in a field with my camera in hand.
Since 2015 I have also worked as an environmental educator, and continue to facilitate land, farm, and food based workshops for a variety of participants ranging from preschoolers to religious communities to new migrants.
This is my growing collection of photographs taken mostly while traveling, or on a farm somewhere in Canada.
